Privacy Policy

Overview

Item Value Checker ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our service.

Information We Collect

Images and image URLs: When you submit an image for a value estimate, we process its bytes to search for similar items on eBay. The browser extension can instead submit a source image URL, which our service fetches before processing. We do not intentionally add raw image bytes to the estimate cache. We may cache the derived estimate for up to 6 hours under a SHA-256 hash of the image so a repeated check can reuse the result.

Optional AI listing drafts: If you ask the listing generator to create a title and description, we process the selected image and marketplace choice for that request and send them to OpenAI to generate the draft.

Technical Information: We collect basic technical information such as your IP address, browser type, and device information to prevent abuse and improve our service. Our own servers also receive error reports (the error message, the page it happened on, and your browser type) and basic usage events, including clicks on eBay listings, so we can fix bugs and see which features get used.

Price-watch notifications (optional). If you tap "Watch price," your browser's push subscription and a thumbnail of your item are stored so we can notify you when its estimated resale value moves. We delete this when you unsubscribe or the subscription expires. We never sell it.

How We Use Your Information

  • To provide price estimation services
  • To prevent abuse and ensure service reliability
  • To improve our algorithms and user experience
  • To communicate with you if you contact us

Data Sharing

We use eBay's API to search for similar items. Image bytes may be sent to eBay's servers for that processing. Please refer to eBay's Privacy Policy for their data handling practices.

If you request an optional AI listing draft, we send the selected image and prompt to OpenAI. See OpenAI's Privacy Policy for its data-handling practices.

We do not sell your personal information for money. We do use the third-party analytics and advertising services described in the "Analytics, Advertising, and Cookies" section below, which receive information about your visit and may use it for their own advertising and measurement. The eBay image search and optional OpenAI listing-draft transfer described above are the content-processing services used for those features.

Analytics, Advertising, and Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies through third-party services to measure how the site is used, to display ads, and to monitor performance and errors. These services set cookies in your browser and receive information about your visit.

Google Analytics 4. We use Google Analytics 4 (Google LLC) to measure traffic and understand how the tool is used. It sets cookies (including _ga and _ga_*) and collects pages viewed, time on site, interactions with the estimation tool, outbound link clicks, and custom events such as estimated value ranges, item categories, and page-performance metrics. Google processes this under its own privacy policy and may combine it with data from other sites. You can opt out with the Google Analytics Opt-out Add-on.

Google AdSense. We display ads through Google AdSense (Google LLC). To serve and measure ads and to detect invalid traffic, AdSense loads and connects to other Google advertising domains. These set advertising cookies and collect information about your activity on this and other sites. You can manage or opt out of personalized advertising in Google Ads Settings.

Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights. We use Vercel's analytics to monitor performance. They collect Web Vitals (such as Largest Contentful Paint and Cumulative Layout Shift) and basic page-view data, sent to Vercel, to keep the site fast.

Sentry. We use Sentry to catch and debug errors. It collects JavaScript errors, stack traces, page paths, browser information, and performance metrics, sent to Sentry, so we can fix problems. See Sentry's Privacy Policy.

Cookies we set ourselves. A few cookies come from us, not from the services above:

  • ivc_email keeps you signed in after you enter your email for Pro features or the admin area. It holds a signed copy of your email and lasts 90 days.
  • ivc_vid is a random ID the listing generator uses to enforce the free usage limit and prevent abuse. It lasts 1 year and is not tied to your name or email.
  • ivc_ref remembers which referral link brought you here so the person who referred you gets credit. It lasts 30 days.

When you dismiss the cookie notice, we also store a small flag in your browser's local storage so we don't show it again.

Cookies and your choices. The services above set cookies, and so do we. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some features may work less well. If you delete ivc_email, you'll be signed out of Pro until you enter your email again.

Data Retention

Raw image bytes are processed for the request and are not intentionally written to our estimate cache. A derived estimate, keyed by a SHA-256 hash of the image, may be cached for up to 6 hours. Service providers such as eBay and, when you request an AI listing draft, OpenAI process submitted data under their own policies. Optional browser-extension history, saved items, and its 24-hour result cache are stored in your browser and are described in the browser extension privacy policy.

Your Rights

We don't have passworded accounts, and we do not permanently store the images you upload. If you enter your email to claim or use Pro, we keep that email along with your Pro status so you stay signed in. You can ask us to delete it any time by emailing support@itemvaluechecker.com. The third-party analytics and advertising services described above do set cookies and collect usage data. You can opt out of those through the links in the "Analytics, Advertising, and Cookies" section above or through your browser settings, and you can request access to or deletion of data held by Google directly from Google.

Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including HTTPS encryption, rate limiting, and input validation to protect your data during transmission and processing.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
